Svend Aarkrog: “The Nolde Museum owns a farm that was leased to a farmer by the name of Kahlke. This family owned several Nolde watercolours which had been given to them by Nolde to commemorate family occasions. For example, daughter Gerta Kahlke received a watercolour as a confirmation present in 1952. In 1960 Gerta was married to a certain E. Freitag, and they settled on a smallholding in Neukirchen near Niebüll. They needed money to set up, and decided to sell the Nolde which had previously graced their modest little parlour”.
