Johannes Schultheiss (1595–1645) was of the first academically trained physicians and surgeons in Germany in the 17th century. This is the second German edition of his treatise on surgery, the “Armamentarium chirugicum” (1655). The book is exceptional in new surgical techniques used in mastectomy, cesarean section, hernia operation and arterial ligation.
