Fritz Petzholdt (b. Copenhagen 1805, d. Patras 1838)
Mountainous landscape with large rocks. Two women meet at a roadside crucifix. The mountains in the background are presumably part of the Geisler group (the Geisler Spitzen) in the Dolomites. Unsigned. Inscribed on the back “F. Petzholdt” and “tilhører G. Collin” (belonging to G. Collin). Oil on paper laid on canvas. 27×38 cm.
Provenance: Judge G. Collin was Petzholdt's brother-in-law, and it is his handwriting on the back of the canvas. G. Collin wrote on the back when he framed Petzholdt's paintings.
The painting is presumably carried out around 1829–1830, when Petzholdt travelled to the south of Germany and Italy.
Retouches. A few minimal uneven areas due to mounting.
