Bertha Nicoline Tuxen was a Danish flower- and portraitpainter and the elder sister of Laurits Tuxen (1853–1927). Unlike her brother she only had access to private teachers during her artistic education - it was not untill 1888 that women where allowed access as students of the Royal Danish Academy of Arts. A pupil of the famous Danish painter of landscapes, Vilhelm Kyhn (1819–1903), she was initially influenced by the style of the painters of The Danish Golden Age. Nicoline Tuxen spent several periods in Paris and was furthermore inspired by Laurits Tuxen to work with the light and the pure colors.
