General Charles de Gaulle entered Paris in the late afternoon hours of August 25, 1944 - just hours after the surrender of German General Dietrich von Choltitz - and in his speech to the people of the liberated city declared the victory a French victory. Only sporadically did de Gaulle mention the enormous sacrifice, some 50,000 young men, that - mainly - Great Britain, Canada and the United States had made since June 6, D-Day, the Normandy landings.
This is an original b/w silver gelatin from ca. 1944, which has a creased/broken corner with backside repair. Furthermore normal signs of handling.
