Johanne Valeur Kyhn (f. Bruun) (b. Nykøbing F. 1886, d. København)
Still life with red geraniums, Summer 1909. Signed and dated on the reversel. Oil on canvas. 70×55 cm.
Johanne Valeur Kyhn is educated by Marie Lupau and Emilie Mundt from 1902–03. She works for a number of years at Den Kgl. Poreclænsfabrik's art department and at the same time she travels abroad. In 1910 she marries the painter Knud Kyhn, but the marriage dissolves in 1922.
The youth work with the underglaze painting at Den kgl. Porcelainsfabrik characterizes Valeur Kyhn's early pictures, but under the influence of Knud Kyhn, a stronger form of expression and clearer stylistic efforts in a decorative direction appear. However, she does not abandon the basic naturalistic view, but paints flowers, arrangements and landscapes in a broad and summary rendering.
Valeur Kyhn repeatedly exhibits at the Kunstnernes Efterårsutstilling, Charlottenborg - as well as the Kvindlige Kunstneres retrospective exhibition in 1920.
