Unknown photographer: An original b/w press photograph of Paul McCartney (b. 1942) and John Lennon (1940–1980). Back with stamped publication date (April 12, 1970). Photo size 16.5×24.5 cm. Frame size 33×43 cm.
The present photgraph's stamped publication date is probably related to the break-up of The Beatles in the spring of 1970. In September 1969 Paul McCartney had told John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison that he wanted out, yet it was not before April 10, 1970 that he released an official statement declaring that he was no longer a part of the band. Legal disputes, however, continued long after his announcement, and the dissolution was not formalized until December 29, 1974.
This is an original b/w press photograph from 1970, which shows only very modest signs of handling.
