A Greenlandic segmented driftwood figure of a naked woman with facial tattoos, only wearing skin boots, spinal column partly defined. Early 20th century. H. 20 cm.

Provenance: According to information: Emmy Langberg, 1902–1993, photographer, etnographer and adventurer. In the 1920s-1930s she was secretary for the Danish polar explorer Knud Rasmussen, 1879–1933, and accompanied him on four expeditions to Greenland. She was assistant instructor on the movie Palos Brudefærd in 1934. Thereafter in the collection of Ib Geertsen. There called “Emmy”. Ib Geertsen, 1919–2009, was a Danish painter and sculptor. He also collected Greenlandic crafts and wrote about Greenlandic masks.

Condition

Wear due to age and use. Some cracks.
