A Chinese bronze censer, circular body, sides with taotie masks on scrollwork ground between flanges, with upright handles, raised on three columnar feet, hardwood cover carved with fantasy animals and finial in the shape of a soap-stone carved Fo-dog and stand carved with lingzhi. Qing, 18th-19th century. Weight 7,039 g. Censer H. 37. H. in all 55 cm.

Provenance: According to information acquired by Ludvig Stenersen Münter, 1877–1957, who worked for the Great Northern Telegraph Company and was stationed as an assistent in Shanghai from 1900–1909 and as a station master in Beijing from 1909–1929, the family knew Sophus Black, and their home was a popular meeting place for Danish expats in Beijing.
