Rare and interesting suite of eleven Orders bestowed upon Karl Marius Widding. The ensemble consists of the following orders: Lithuania, Order of Grand Duke Gediminas, First Class set of Cross and Breast star, Type II (1939), with full length sash in fitted case by Swiss maker Huguenin Freres and Co.; Sweden, Order of Vasa (1911), Commander II Class, neck badge, in fitted case by Carlman; Greece, Grand Officer's set of Cross and Breast Star (1930), with full length sash in fitted case by Swiss maker Huguenin Freres and Co.;Japan, Order of the Sacred Treasure, (1913), III Class neck badge with sash in original lacquer box; Turkey, Order of Medjidie (before 1918), V Class with full length sash; Iran, Order of the Lion and the Sun, (before 1925) Knight's badge; accompanied by seven miniatures and a number of rosettes. The collection is accompanied by a number of original documents and official diplomas pertaining to the orders.
Karl Marius Widding (K, DH), 1879–1947, was a Danish lawyer and diplomat stationed in a number of countries including Argentina, Brazil and Lithuania. The League of Nations appointed him to a number of politically highly important posts in the troublesome years following the first world war including, in 1927, president for the Mixed Commission for the Exchange of Greek and Turkish Population and, in 1928, Harbourmaster of the city of Kleipéda (Memel).
