Janine Janet (b. 1913, d. 2000)
A large faience figure in the shape of a rooster. Decorated with cream coloured glaze as well as greyosh brown glazed feather motifs and decor. Signed Janine Janet. With paper label from Illums Bolighus, Copenhagen. Made ca. 1950s. H. 53 cm. L. 47 cm.
As an artist, Janine Janet was primarily known for her art installations and sculptural objects made in collaboration with Parisian fashion houses, for which she created unique window decorations and sculptures. She also worked as a costume designer, and she was thus quite versatile as an artist working with both sculptures, ceramics and costumes.
Patina due to age and use and a few small chips/peelings in glaze. Visible from the underside is a hairline crack which is presumably caused by the firing (not visible from the outside).
