Engraved title-page, engraved privilege dated 1716. Illust. with 39 + 10 engraved plates, incl. 23 double-page (incl. folding plan of Versailles). Front free endpaper annotated: “Versailles, Trianon et Marli”, title annotated: “Stierneld. 1804 i Mars på Souterska bokauktionen i Stock[holm]”. 2 plates with minor marginal tear (outside plate). Last blank with minor tear. A few plates with browning. Bound in cont. full calf with gilt boards, crowned gilt super exlibris on both boards and all edges gilt. Upper part of spine with split, upper and lower part of spine with wear.

The plates by the French sculptor Pierre Lepautre (1659–1744) and others, were published shortly after the death of Louis XIV, the Sun King, in 1715. France's longest reigning monarch (1643–1715) established Versailles as the residence of the King of France from 1682.

Provenance: The Swedish baron and politician Adolf Ludvig Stierneld (1755–1835), the Hamilton family, Stjernarps Manor in county Halland, Sweden.
