Unknown photographers: An original b/w press photograph of the English statesman Sir Winston Churchill (1874–1965). Back with Associated Press stamp, news telegram and publication date (July 17th 1962). Photo size 23×18 cm. Frame size 43×33 cm.
Winston Churchill was - especially in the latter part of his life - known for his many hats, his many uniforms and his many tailored pieces of clothing. The present image shows him wearing three different outfits - the first as Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports (1946), the second as a private individual and tourist at Lago di Garda in Italy (1949) and the third as a suit dressed leader of the opposition (1948). Churchill's preferred tailor throughout six decades (beginning in 1905) was “Henry Poole & Co” of 15 Saville Row, London, a company still in existence, which to this day profits by the name of their deceased, world famous client.
This is an original b/w press photograph from 1962, which shows normal signs of handling. Furthermore two corners with small creases.
