The exposures of Sophia Loren - the present one is part of a larger range - were taken in and around Villa Ponti, the Renaissance home of the actress and her husband Carlo Ponti 20 km north-east of Rome, in the early spring of 1971 and were featured in Vogue (UK edition) in March that same year. The man behind the images, Antony Armstrong-Jones - married to the younger sister of the English queen - was one of the most sought-after portrait photographers of the day, a man who had access to most celebrities. By and large, Antony Armstrong-Jones always used a Leica M3 in his work - also in the case of Sophia Loren.
