Elisabeth Schiøtt (b. Copenhagen 1856, d. s.p. 1938)
A path cutting through a landscape. Signed Elis Schiøtt. Oil on canvas. 48×60 cm.
The artist, Elisabeth Schiøtt, was particularly focused on the landscape motif. North Zealand, especially the countryside around Hornbaek and Frederiksvaerk, frequently appear in her work. Examples of this can be seen in most of the pieces from the private collection Bruun Rasmussen is now selling on auction 2043. The blooming meadows and rain-soaked sheds of the region, are equally interesting to her as motifs. She was educated at Kunstnernes Studieskole and later attended The Art Academy under Julius Paulsen. Over a period of 40 years, she exhibited almost every year at Charlottenborg. During her professional career, she sought inspiration in her travels to Paris and Sweden, as can be seen in the lush view from Visby, nr. 121 of the auction. Provenance: A Danish private collection.
Minor crackles and retouches. One repair.
