Johann Friedrich Struensee (b. 1737, d. 1772)

Unique collection of material regarding the German physician and “de facto” regent of Denmark Johann Friedrich Struensee. The collection includes a wide selection of Trykkefrihed-Skrifter (publications on The Freedom of the Press Act). + A contemporary handwritten transcript in ink entitled ”Copie af de Originale Documenter som ere Forfattede i Anledning af Inquisitions Processen imod de forrige Grever Struensee og Brandt […].” + N. Prahl (publ.) Kiøbenhavns Allehaande for Aaret 1772 og 1773 (all published). Cph: P.H. Höecke 1772. + Dr. B. Münter: Bekehrungsgeschichte des vormaligen Grafen […] Johann Friederich Struensee. Cph: Rothens Erben und Proft. 1772. Moreover a series of engravings illustrating the events around Struensee's arrest and execution as well as 2 portraits of Struensee and a satirical, coloured woodcut. 18th century. All framed. The measurements varies: 43.5×37 – 25×20 cm. Enclosed a miniature portrait of Queen Caroline Mathilde painted on ivory by Andreas Thornborg, inserted in the original crowned tin frame. + Miniature portrait (Struensee as young, but more likely Christian d. 7).

A unique collection of books, booklets, copper engravings etc. linked to a landmark period in Danish 18th century history. Flemming Erik Pedersen was most of his life fascinated by the dramatic story of Queen Caroline Mathilde and J.F. Struensee, and this collection has been created over several decades.
