The Imperial Porcelain Factory, c. 1820-1825
A Russian topographical porcelain plate, decorated in colours and gold on white ground, centrally a motif from St. Petersburg with a view to the statue of Peter I the Great of Russia, called “the Bronze Horseman”. Unmarked but pressed “12” and titled on the reverse in Cyrillic “The Sight of the Monument of Peter 1”. The Imperial Porcelain Factory in St. Petersburg, c. 1820–1825, during the reign of Tsar Alexander I of Russia (1801–1825). Diam. 24 cm.
We have noticed worn gilding and firing spots on the front and reverse. To the left on the front (near the gilding) three spots, which could look like retouches even though it would be an unlogical colour choise.
