P. S. Krøyer (b. Stavanger 1851, d. Skagen 1909)

Evening landskape by the antique theatre in Taormina with a view of Etna and the Golf. Signed S. Krøyer Taormina 1901. 32 cm x 43 cm. Painted on wood. H. Chr. Christensen's catalogue nr. 695. Present painting is one of the many which include the antique theatre in Taormina. Already in Febuary 1901, the Krøyer family travelled to Sicily, where they met up with Heinrich and Pauline Hirschprung. During the visit, Krøyer received notice, that he had been given an honorary, lifelong presentation of 3000 Crowns a year. (He had been part of the State Budget). As the Krøyer family spent a lot of money, this was very good news. Later that year, the family went to Norway, where Krøyer painted his portrait of Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson and Marie stayed at a health resort in Larvik. Krøyers 50th birthday in Norway, with e.g. Holger Drachmann og Agnes Slott-Møller. In August the family went to Tyrol. The visit was brief. Marie and Vibeke went to Naples to celebrate Christmas there, Søren went to Skagen via Berlin. Provenance: G. A. Hagemann, who among others initiated that Krøyer paint the pictures of the Stock Exchange(Børsbilledet) and The Men of Industry (Industriens mænd.)

H. Chr. Christensens fortegnelse nr. 695. Gode nyheder, for familien Krøyer brugte mange penge. Afbildet
