Roman Manikhin (f. Moskva 1977)

“Sirin”. Sign. Manikhin 2020. Unikt bemalet kokeshi-figur. H. 60.

“The sculpture is based on the image of a mythological creature of Russian legend called Sirins. They have the head of a beautiful woman and the body of a bird. Sirins sang beautiful songs to the saints, foretelling future joys. However, for mortals, the birds were dangerous. Men who heard them would forget everything on earth, follow them, and ultimately die. The image of Sirins has changed over time and now they symbolize world harmony (as they live near paradise). Also, they symbolize eternal joy and heavenly happiness”.

About the artist: Based in Russia, Roman Manikhin is an illustrator and painter. Famous for his colorful universe with female sexuality and circuses as the dominant themes.
