Christen Købke (b. Copenhagen 1810, d. s.p. 1848)
Cheerful scen from a drinking party. Inscribed: “Den er let at lokke, som gjerne vil hoppe”. Pen and pencil on paper. Visible size 17.5×23 cm.
Christen Købke was a student of C. W. Eckersberg from 1828. The students were given drawing tasks by Eckersberg on various sayings such as: “Den ene abe får den anden til at gabe” and “Man skal smede, medens jernet er varmt”. This present scene can be done by Købke as his take on a drawing that illustrates the proverb: “Den er let at lokke, som gerein vil hoppe”. In Hans Edvard Nørregård-Nielsen's book on Christen Købke, volume I, pages 67–70, there are examples of similar tasks solved by Købke.
Provenance: Arne Bruun Rasmussen auction 671, 1999 no. 691.
