Jacob Kjær (b. 1896, d. 1957)

An exceptional and finely detailed Brazilian rosewood display cabinet with sides and three sliding doors of glass. Interior with six adjustable “floating” Brazilian rosewood “tray shelves” with raised edges, mounted on polished brass panels. Front with two pull-out leaves, brass fittings. This example designed and made 1949–1951 by cabinetmaker Jacob Kjær, with maker's paper label. H. 165 cm. L. 133 cm. D. 48 cm.

Provenance: Made to order by private collector in Brussels, 1949–1951.

The customer who ordered this piece of furniture had seen a display cabinet by the Swedish furniture designer Erik Chambert and was interested in something similar. But the design had to be of Danish cabinetmaker quality. Therefore, he contacted Jacob Kjær and asked him to design a unique cabinet. The result is a fantastic example of Kjær's uncompromising nature when it comes to form, aesthetics and first and foremost quality.
