You choose whatever date you find special: your wedding day, the day you started your own company, your child’s birthday, or simply a day you were secretly happy. That date will be turned into a neon work by Mikkel Carl.
The Danish artist, writer and associate professor and teacher at the Funen Art Academy Mikkel Carl (b. 1976) lives and works in Sorø and Copenhagen, Denmark. He has a BA in the history of ideas from Aarhus University and an MFA from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Carl’s practice often takes its starting point from concrete surroundings, as a combination of immediate physical presence and cultural references. References that are ”encoded” in the works and give rise to considerations about existing frameworks in relation for our interpretation of materials.
The work is made from LED-neon strips and therefore uses very little power, releases almost no heat, and is very durable—an environmental-friendly alternative to traditional glass tubes filled with gas. · The LED has a lifespan of 30,000+ hours. · Step-less touch dimmer included. · Comes with a transparent power cord. · Made in Denmark.
The work is part of a charity auction to benefit “Børns Vilkår” (Children's Rights Denmark). The auction is initiated and curated by “Curated by Jens-Peter Brask”. The artists have generously donated their works. Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers do not charge fees or commission so the total proceeds will go undiminished to Børns Vilkår's important work.
