Portrait of Princes Bertha Amalsunde of Ysenburg and Büdingen (1845–1927), née Countess of Castell-Rüdenhausen. 1882. Unsigned. Inscribed on the reverse: "Bertha Fürstin zu Ysenburg u Büdingen, Gräfin zu Castell-Rüdenhausen, geb. d. 4 Juli 1845, [... (presumably 'drawn' or similar)] 1882 37 Jahre alt'. Charcoal on paper. 55×45 cm.

Princess Bertha (b. Rüdenhausen in Bavaria 1845, d. Büdingen in Hesse 1927) was daughter of Count Adolf of Castell-Rüdenhausen and his wife, Friederike Maria von Thüngen. Princess Bertha was married in Büdingen 1869 with Prince Bruno Casimir Albert Emile Ferdinand of Ysenburg and Büdingen (1837–1906). This couple became parents to Princess Hertha of Ysenburg and Büdingen (1883–1972), who in 1920 married Prince Albert of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (his second marriage). He became the grandfather of the below mentioned sisters.

Condition

The paper has turned slightly brown with some foxing. Examined in frame.
