A Roman marble fragment of Eros, large lock of hair in top knot, side hair is swept forward, right ear visible, face with chubby cheeks, finely defined eyes and small mouth with parted lips. Presumably with remains of red colour on right eye and part of hair. Back of head lacking. Roman Imperial Period, c. 1st-2nd century AD. H. c. 17 cm.

Provenance: J. A. Jerichau (1816–1883). Sold at the Jerichau estate sale in 1884, likely lot 67 “Amor. Back of head broken”. Not stated in bill, but checked in the 1884 catalogue. Professor C. Wilkens (1844–1929). Danish private collection, by inheritance.
