An original b/w gelatin silver press photograph of the father of modern India, Mohandas Karamchand 'Mahatma' Gandhi (1869–1948) in conversation with later Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru (1889–1964) during 'The All India Congress in Mumbai on July 15, 1946. Undated but presumably 1946. Fiber based photographic paper. Visible size 20×24 cm. Frame size 31×35.

Gandhi's personal strength was reflected in his consistent and simple lifestyle. He wanted to own as little as possible, ate a simple vegetarian diet and wore only a single piece of clothing, woven with threads he spun himself. At the time of his death on January 30, 1948, he left behind only 15 possessions, including a charka, two pairs of sandals, a bed, the skirt on which he spun his clothes, a pair of glasses, a pocket watch, a note book and two eating bowls.
