Emil Nolde (b. Nolde 1867, d. Seebüll 1956)
Female portrait, c. 1938–1945, presumably one of the “Unpainted Pictures”. Signed Nolde. Ink and watercolour. Sheet size 17×13 cm.
Provenance: The work was a gift from the artist to the nurse Christa Kaps in connection with the care she provided the artist during a stay at the hospital in Eppendorf i 1935. Since then in the family’s ownership. The Nolde couple since kept the contact with Ms. Kaps. According to Professor Dr. Manfred Reuther is this work presumably a part of Noldes “Unpainted Pictures”, which he made during his painting ban from 1938–1945. Letters and personal photos depicting Christa Kaps, Ada and Emil Nolde, and Noldes house and studio in Seebüll is included. Provenance: Private collection, Denmark.
