On auction 1824 Bruun Rasmussen is pleased to offer a collection of works by the artists Emilie Mundt and Marie Luplau, who where a couple professionally as well as romantically. Both where active in the women’s rights movement, and had fought for the admission of women to The Danish Art Academy in vain. Having been rejected from The Art Academy in 1874, they travelled to Munich to study painting, encouraged by the artist Elisabeth Jerichau-Baumann. Mundt and Luplau's efforts contributed to the founding of an art school for women in connecting to the Danish Academy of Art, and furthermore the artists established a women’s school for drawing and painting in their mutual home. Where Luplau was focused on landscape painting, Mundt largely drew on motifs from the childrens asylum and from the intimacy of the couple's home. The portrait of their adopted daughter, Carla, of Marie Luplau with her palette, and of the view from their apartment on Frederiksberg, are all examples of this. These motifs are all present in this small collection of works, which until today has been in the possession of a grand child of the artists' daughter, Carla Mundt-Luplau.
