Carl Gustav Neumann (, St. Petersburg 1792)

A Russian Neoclassical silver tea caddy, of oval form, gilt interior, body and lid cast with beading borders, including tapered finial. Carl Gustav Neumann, assay scrapes, assayer Nikifor Moschtschalkin, St. Petersburg town mark 1792, pricked “93 Sol.” Weight c. 392 g. H. 11 cm. L. 13.8 cm.

“Sol.” is the abreviation for the Russian weight unit zolotnik.

Provenance: The Danish Envoy and Consul General Hans Poul Hoffmeyer (1893–1962). Thence by descent with residence in Denmark, until today.
