The exhibition PERSONA presents knitting art by Stine Leth, born 1979 and photography by Søren Rønholt, born 1969. The two artists did not know each other when Lars Bonde, Væg Gallery, Aalborg, asked them to work together on the exhibition Persona. Stine Leth knitted a series of abstract masks, which Søren Rønholt invited interested parties to wear while he photographed them. The models themselves chose the mask and pose, and whether they wanted to be naked or clothed. The result of the collaboration has become subtle and slightly disturbing hybrids between portrait photography and surrealist abstraction. The term 'persona' comes from the world of psychology, where it refers to the different facades we each put on in social contexts, also when we are portrayed. The exhibition asks: What happens to the traditional portrait when the person portrayed wears a mask? Can you create a portrait without showing the face? How will the viewer perceive the portrait when its traditional codes are broken up and replaced by.
