Fritz Petzholdt (b. Copenhagen 1805, d. Patras 1838)

Kunstforeningen, “De ukendte guldaldermalere”, 1982 no. 124. Here the author believes that the motif is probably painted by Petzholdt on his way to or from Italy, and presumably the Italian Alps seen from the southernmost plain. (It has also been suggested that the landscape is from Sicily, 1831).
Provenance: Consul General Johan Hansen's collection no. 1489, his auctions, part II, Winkel & Magnussen 123, 1932 no. 143 entitled “From the Italian mountains”.
