Ingeborg Seidelin (b. Copenhagen 1872, d. s.p. 1914)
Three women in conversation in a studio. In the foreground a painter's smock, reed shoes and a paint box. Signed and dated I. S. 1905. Oil on canvas. 47.5×54 cm.
The present painting by Ingeborg Seidelin is a rendering of an artist's studio with three women engaged in conversation at a table. Paintbrushes are standing in a jar by the large studio window, in the foreground a paint box is lying open on a table, a painter's smock has been dropped on a stool and a pair of reed shoes casually left on the floor. The composition with reed shoes, the painter's smock and painter's tools in front draws our focus to the artist and to the creative process of the artist. The three women appear to be absorbed in their own company - perhaps artists, having for a moment left their brushes in order to take a break or discuss.
Ingeborg Seidelin was a pupil of Luplau Janssen (1869–1927). She travelled to Paris and Rome, received grants and exhibited frequently at Charlottenborg from 1900 to 1914, at Kunstnernes Efterårsudstilling (the Artists' Autumn Exhibition), in 1905 also at De Afvistes Udstilling (the exhibition of the rejected) and in 1906 on Martsudstillingen (the March Exhibit) and Høstudstillingen (the Autumn Exhibition).
