In 2016 Alicia Vikander won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in “The Danish Girl”, which tells the story of the Danish artist couple Gerda Wegener (née Gottlieb; 1886–1940) and Einar Wegener (1882–1931). Einar Wegener was among the very first transgender persons, who had a sex-change operation. Thereafter he was allowed to take the name Lili Ilse Elvenes.
