Maximian Herculius, First reign, 286–305, Aureus, Cyzicus, c. 290–293, MAXIMIANVS AVGVSTVS / CONSVL III PP PRO COS, togate Maximianus standing left holding globe and short sceptre, RIC 596, Calicó 4621, 5.35 g. Lustrous well-struck specimen with portrait in high relief.
A perfect piece with a reverse demonstrating imperial power and from a time when Maximian and Diocletian amongst many other matters were troubled with Carausius' rule in Britian. They failed to invade Britian in 289, but refused to grant Carausius' secessionist state formal legitimacy.
