Johan Thomas Lundbye (b. Kalundborg 1818, d. Bedsted 1848)

The present drawing relates to a sketch from 1847, which depicts a shepherd standing on the exact same slope. This sketch, part of Lundbye's sketchbook “Trolddomme og huletanker”, is located at The Hirschsprung Collection in Copenhagen.

Provenance: The collection of art dealer M. Grosell, his auction Winkel & Magnussen 109, 1932 no. 93. Bruun Rasmussen auction 517, 1988 no. 954, reproduced on p. 198.
Some minor foxing. Minor losses to upper edge. The sheet has turned brown. Examined in frame.
