Russian woodcarvings in the form of a dish and a sweeping tray with broom, the former cut with “bread and salt”, the latter cut with “S. & W. S. 1909”. Early 20th century. Diam. dish 30 cm. L. tray 24 cm. L. broom 31 cm. (3).

Provenance: The Danish couple, Niels Petersen Gjerdin (1885–1949) and his wife Betty Gjerdin, née Clausen (1878–1949). They traveled to Estonia in 1908, where N. P. Gjerding became inspector of the Almenau Estate (Mäesaare), which was a support manor of the Bentenhof Estate (Pindi), east of Võru. During the Russian Revolution, the couple fled with their children across Finland to Denmark. Thence by descent to their great-granddaughter with residence in Denmark until today.

Condition

Minor wear due to age, among others few marks, cracks and scratches plus missing part on the tray handle.
