A Russian icon, The Only Begotten Son. Tempera on wooden panel. Early 20th century. 22.5×18 cm.
Provenance: Patriarch Alexey I of Moscow and All Rus (1877–1970), who 1950–1970 gave Alf Vilhelm Jensen Russian icons, silver etc. Alf Vilhelm Jensen (b. Blair, Nebraska 1909, d. Ebeltoft 1998), dean of Rougsø-Sønderhald-Midt Djurs, Denmark, had a great interest in cooperation with the Russian-Ortodox Church in Russia and Eastern Europe, among others as translater of religious texts. Thus, he got a fine and year-long collaboration with Patriark Alexey I, whom he visited several times in Russia. Thence by descent until today.
