Ellen Poulsen, A Catalogue Raisonné of the Works of Jens Juel, 1991, no. 467, ill. vol. II, p. 294. She refers to the painting as (in Danish): “a very fine painting with mild gentle colours matching the idyllic motif.”
Exhibited: Kunstforeningen, “En Samling af Jens Juels Malerier, Tegninger og Kobbere”, 1828 no. 94, belonging to J. F. Clemens. Kunstakademiets Udstilling, 1852 no. 120 or 121, belonging to conference councillor Koch (1787–1860). Both described as “Landscape”. Nordisk Industri-og Kunstudstilling, 1872–1873 no. 16 or 17, lent for the exhibition by mrs Koch, married to the deceased conference councillor Koch. Kunstforeningen, “Jens Juels works”, 1909 no. 155, belonging to widow M. Koch.
Provenance: Engraver J. F. Clemens. His auction 1832 no. 15, bought by conference councillor Jørgen Hansen Koch (his name is on the stretcher). Kunsthallen, Copenhagen, 9 September 1998 no. 19, ill. p. 9.
