Martha Hviid (b. 1987, lives and works in Copenhagen)

“Reach (Yellow)”. Unsigned. Digital signed work certificate included. Liquid marker on furniture upholstery fabric, foam and wood. 104×63 cm.

The Danish artist Martha Hviid (b. 1987) works and lives in Copenhagen, Denmark. She holds an MFA from The Sculpture Programme at The Royal College of Art, London and University of Texas, Austin, as well as a post-master in public and integrated art, supported by Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen’s Foundation. Martha Hviid makes large installations, medium-sized sculptures, small manageable objects, drawings, texts, and sometimes pieces one can listen to or smell. Her practice revolves around how we as humans exist in the world – how we sense, feel and think, and ways we consciously, as well as subconsciously communicate and interact with each other. Hviid mostly works with materials that call upon one’s sensorial memories from everyday life – plush carpets, hard concrete, smooth ceramics, and bent metals.
