“Sokrates i fængsel”. Socrates in prison. Unsigned. Oil on paper laid on cardboard. 39×50 cm. Period frame.
The original from c. 1794, which this painting is related to, is situated at Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, inventory number MIN 1595. As this motif is a mirror image of the original, it indicates that it instead was based on an engraving by J. F. Clemens, one which can be found at Thorvaldsens Museum, inventory number E442.
Retouches. In need of cleaning. Some minimal crackles, peelings and surface scratches.
