J.B. Descamps: Voyages pittoresques de la Flandre et du Brabant, Paris 1769. (XII) 328 (6), 8vo. With five full engraved plates and an engraved folding map of Belgium. Uncut in the orig. marbled paperbinding. In matching clamshell box with brown morocco label.
A highly interesting copy heavily annotated in the original hand of one of the most important Danish statesmen of the 18th century, Christian Ditlev Frederik Reventlow (1748 – 1827), who used this book as a travel guide to the art treasures of the Southern Low Countries during his visit in 1770.
Count Reventlow is today best know as the most important figure behind the abolition of serfdom in 1788.
The copy originates from the library at the Manor House Christianssæde and bears the signature of the count on the title page.
