Until around 1970, press photographs were generally developed using relatively thin, fiber-based silver gelatin photographic paper. This was economical in use, and the photographs dried rapidly after coming out of the darkroom, a crucial factor in environments with constant deadlines.
This is an original black-and-white silver gelatin press photograph from 1953, which shows signs of normal handling, including a few minor surface pressure marks and small scratches. Back with discolouration. Newspaper clipping on the back yellowed.
