The inscription goes: "Den kjære, fortræffelige Worsaa / fra hans /hengivne Ven Hans Christian Andersen (The dear, excellent Worsaa / from his / devoted friend Hans Christian Andersen).
It is remarkable that Hans Christian Andersen in this dedication writes his name in Latin letters – and writes his full name. Usually, he only did this with the Swedes, French and English (i.e. places outside the Danish-Germanic tradition). Worsaae was born in 1821 – and much younger than Hans Christian Andersen – but early on he established himself as a gifted and astute researcher of antiquity and archaeologist.
