With the title “Effort commun” (Shared effort), Sonja Ferlov Mancoba emphasizes the central movement in the sculpture, the exchange between the two figures. But at the same time, she also points to her own, and her friends’, worldview and hope for the future. The Sculpture consists of a slanting oval, held at each end by a standing figure. One is round in its shape, the other is more angular. It consists of offset planes pointing in different directions, and this enables the sculpture to pull and stretch. Yet, the two figures work together. They show man’s eternal dream of being two – different, but alike”, Gunnar Jespersen, p. 18.
