Charles Lindbergh was the first man to cross the Atlantic Ocean non-stop by air. The trip, which lasted 33 hours, took place on May 21, 1927. Upon his return to the United States (June 13, 1927), President Calvin Coolidge awarded him The Medal of Honor, the highest American military decoration, and Time Magazine named him the first ever 'Man of the Year'.
