Lars Trondson Kinsarvik (b. Kinsarvik 1846, d. 1925)

Purchased by Musee d'Orsay in November 2018.

A Norwegian 'Dragon' style painted and carved cupboard inspired by vernacular design with decorations showing themes from sagas and fairytales including gnomes and trolles. Late 19th century. H. 200 cm. W. 123 cm. D. 57 cm.

Provenance: The furniture has been in the same family in Paris since the 'Exposition Universelle' in 1900 and then by descent to the present time.

Kinsarvik's furniture has been purchased by the largest Norwegian museums, Musée d'Orsay in Paris, Victoria & Albert Museum, London, and The Mitchell Wolfson Jr. Collection, Miami.

In the ‘Catalogue Géneral Officiel’, tome quartorzieme, Paris 1900, Kinsarvik is mentioned, Group XII, Décoration et mobilier, Norvége, nr. 4: Lars Kinsarvik, une Armoir sculpté et peinte.
