Poul Henningsen (b. Ordrup 1894, d. Hillerød 1967)

“PH-5/5 Daylight lamp”. Very rare pendant with browned brass socket house marked “PH-5 Patented”, original turquoise blue and opal glass shades, bottom bowl of turquoise frosted glass. Extra bottom shade and bottom bowl included. This example manufactured approx. 1930 by Louis Poulsen. Diam. 50 cm. (3)

Literature: “Light Years Ahead”, ill. and referenced on p. 172: “Special lamp recommended for special circumstances where it was important to be able to distinguish between the colours. The efficiency quotient for the PH daylight lamp was nearly twice as high as for other types of daylight fittings where the daylight-effect was attained with the help of special daylight bulbs”.

This large "Daylight” lamp has always been among the most sought-after icons, and quite extraordinarily the lamp comes with an extra bottom shade as well as a bottom bowl. The special glass shades of white opal glass cased with blue glass only exist in very few examples and leave the viewer with quite a memorable impression.
