Unknown photographer: An original b/w press photograph of the Argentine doctor, author, military theorist and revolutionary leader Ernesto “Che” Guevara (1928–1967). Front with red cropping instructions. Back with notes and stamped publication date (June 27th, 1968). Photo size 21.5×16 cm. Frame size 43×33 cm.
The charismatic revolutionary leader - and to the eyes of many revolutionary hero - Ernesto “Che” Guevara was a medical doctor by profession, yet it was in his role as a marxist guerilla leader that he inserted himself in world history. After Fidel Castro's (1926–2016) takeover of power in Cuba on January 1, 1959 he served in numerous functions, including minister of industry, diplomat and governor of the Cuban national bank. On October 9, 1967 Ernesto “Che” Guevara was executed in Bolivia by the Bolivian officer Mario Terán (b. 1941), who is now a pensioner residing in La Paz.
This is an original b/w press photograph from 1968, which shows normal signs of handling. Back slightly discoloured.
