CHURCHILL THEME
France Libre and FFL (Forces France Libre), established in London in June 1940 and recognized by Britain, the United States and the Soviet Union, was made up of patriotic Frenchmen who wanted to use military force to oppose the German occupation of their homeland, which had taken place one month earlier. The government-in-exile and its volunteer troops were led from the beginning by General Charles de Gaulle, whose relationship with Winston Churchill was always complex and difficult.
