Troil's important pioneering account of the island made during a voyage undertaken in the year 1772, by Joseph Banks, assisted among others by Dr. Solander and Dr. Uno von Troil; Banks and Solander were eminent naturalists who had sailed on Cook's first expedition to the South Seas, and they joined an excursion to the little-known and mysterious Iceland.
