Thyra Boldsen (b. Stavnsholt 1884, d. Monrovia nær Los Angeles, USA 1968)

Thyra Boldsen has an impressive sculptural output behind her. Her technical skills in handling the many different types of stone are hard to overlook in her naturalistic, sculptural works.

Boldsen began her education with Gunnar Jensen and later studied at the Tegne- og Kunstindustriskolen for kvinder (School of Drawing and Decorative for Women) at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, as well as the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Boldsen also graduates as a Candidate of Philosophy in 1916 and she was interested in philosophy throughout her life.

Boldsen is also a member of the Society of Female Artists and exhibits with the association on several occasions. Boldsen found her greatest success in the United States, where she settled permanently in 1931 and lived and worked there until her death.
